ABOUT US
How It All Started
Hi, I’m Allan Fausnaught, founder and craftsman behind Woodland Woodworx. I grew up right here in rural Chester County, and this landscape has always been a huge part of who I am. The textures, the colors, and the calm of the woods have been my biggest inspiration.
My love for woodworking actually began while I was studying engineering at Penn State. I started building percussion instruments by hand — just for fun at first — but that hobby quickly turned into a small business called Woodland Percussion. Over time, my passion for design and my curiosity about natural and symbolic art grew, and that’s what led me to start Woodland Woodworx — a space where I could explore all of that creativity even further.
The Craft Behind the Work
Every piece I make starts as a simple sketch — an idea on paper that slowly comes to life. Once the design is ready, I digitally refine it and then choose the perfect piece of wood to serve as my canvas. I’m really intentional about the lumber I use, selecting each board for its grain and natural beauty.
From there, I bring the design to life using a mix of techniques — carving, laser engraving, and pyrography (which is essentially woodburning). Some pieces also feature stone or crystal inlays, using ethically sourced, finely ground minerals that add a natural energy and color to the artwork.
Each finished piece is treated with a blend of natural oils — no harsh chemicals — to protect and highlight the beauty of the wood itself. It’s a slow process, but that’s what makes it meaningful.
Looking Ahead
I’m always learning, experimenting, and connecting with other artists and makers. My hope is for Woodland Woodworx to grow into a creative space where people from different backgrounds — woodworkers, artists, engineers, designers — can come together to share ideas and bring them to life.
At the end of the day, there’s something deeply rewarding about taking a raw piece of wood — something simple and natural — and turning it into something that speaks to people.
“There’s nothing more gratifying than transforming an entity in its purest form into an expressive work of art.”
